~~~Spring is here!
Spring is here! Spring is here! Spring is
here!~~~
Okay I think that describes the kit April Kits.
Nothing says Spring more than flowers, flowers, and more
flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, bees, and Easter.
It has been a long winter and I am just busting at the
seams with joy over the fact that spring is here.
Honestly, there is still a little snow left in our yard
but we did see that the tulips have begun to sprout in
our flower beds. And the calendar says it's
Spring!
Speaking of the calendar, be sure to check out our
Anniversary Celebration Calendar for a peak at our daily
events. Every day that you participate increases
your changes of winning a prize. You could win
a 3 month Scrapaholic Membership by celebrating with us! |
Welcome to Our
New Design Team Members
Alicia Barry,
Debbie Hodge, and Kim Hughes have joined our design team.
I can't tell you how excited I am to have them on our team!
Be sure to read their bio's on the Design Team page and check
out their work in the gallery.
~Altered Plaque by Jen Sebast~
I decided to make a dimensional element for my altered
project.
First, I scored the butterfly along either
side of the "body" using a ruler and the small end of an
embossing stylus. This allowed the wings to bend easily,
while maintaining a body wide enough to add an attachment
later.
On the backside of the butterfly, I applied a
light coat of green acrylic paint to the wings and white to
the body with a paintbrush (I used MM Scrapbook Colors).
After the paint had dried, I used the small
end of my embossing stylus to scrape a design in the
paint for decoration. The paint lifts easily, leaving a
transparent effect where the paint has been removed.
Last, I used a hand-held 1/16" hole punch to
add a hole on the body and attached the butterfly to my
flower accent using a decorative brad. [click on images for
Anniversary Celebration Threads for information on how to use
the Moldable Foam Stamp and cool tips and techniques for the
white rub-ons.
Also, be sure to
check out the Rx for additional items that will go with the kits
or extra items that are in the kit that you may want more of.
Remember if you order them to ship with your kit you pay no
additional shipping charges.
Thank you!
A warm and special thanks to Kim
L angston and Jen Sebast for filling in for our design team
members this month. You know Kim as texaskim on the
message board and in the gallery. Be sure to read her bio
on the Visiting Therapist page. Kim is a very active
member here at IAAS. She took on the Challenge Marathon
that we held this past winter and wowed us with her talent.
Truly a fellow Scrapaholic! Kim filled in for Aubrey this
month as Aubrey has been extremely busy and needed a little time
off. I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of Kim here.
[wink-wink]
Jen was our Visiting Therapist for February and is filling in
for Molly who needed some time off to welcome her new baby girl
home. Jen also is another true Scrapaholic and spends a
lot of time with us here. Keep your eyes open for more of
her too!
Ladies, Thank you so much for helping us out this month. I
really appreciate everything you are doing for us and with us.
Tips:
1. Style Stones: you can use them plain or
color them with inkpads, paint, alcohol ink, or markers that
have a brush tip.
2. You can use a Q-tip to get into the
recesses of the style stones if you do not have the brushes.
3. Use a paper towel to wipe off excess
ink/fluid chalk from the style stones.
4. The XL Ghost Butterfly shapes can be
used as is or they can be altered with inkpads, paint, markers,
or alcohol inks.
5. To easily cover the chipboard with paper
you can adhere it to the paper then use a craft knife to cut
around the outside shape.
6. Use the negative of the chipboard [what
is left when you pop out the shape] as template.
7. You can use ink on the white net ribbon
to alter the color.
8. If you want the white net ribbon to go
all they way across the page (or card) and don't want the
adhesive to be seen you can adhere it on the back side of the
paper. Cut it long and fold it over to the back side and
adhere it there.
